In January 2007, the Canadian Police College (CPC) began offering courses at its newest campus in Chilliwack, B.C. Located to meet the growing needs of police forces in western Canada, CPC West provides the same high-quality specialized and advanced police training that was originally only offered at the central campus of Canada’s national police college.
CPC West is co-located with the Pacific Region Training Centre (PRTC) in Chilliwack, B.C., and courses are held in select buildings on the campus. Signage is posted to indicate CPC areas and where CPC courses are taking place.
Accommodations, along with full-service dining facilities, are operated by the Executive Hotel & Resorts, which is located on site. They are responsible for all services during your stay. The CPC Registrar will have made arrangements to book your hotel room and meals at CPC West for you at the time you were registered on the course. You do not need to confirm these arrangements with the hotel.
You will be required to pay for all expenses (meals, travel and accommodations) and claim via your own department. Claim processes and entitlements will be explained to you by your course facilitator. Please ensure you bring enough funds to cover all expenses ($99.75 per day for meals & accommodations including all taxes). Payment can be made at the front desk of building 1100 when you check out. The Executive Hotel will accept all major credit cards and debit cards. Please note that billing is not acceptable.
Please note that tuition is billed separately by the CPC to the course participant’s police service. An invoice will be sent by the CPC to the police service for the course tuition.
You must be an employee of a Canadian or international police service, or an employee with Peace Officer status, from a Canadian Government Agency (Federal, Provincial or Municipal), to be eligible to register for a course at the Canadian Police College (CPC) including CPC West. In addition, many courses have specific pre-requisites, available on the CPC website.
The registration process is the same as that for a course at the Canadian Police College in Ottawa.
If you would like to attend a CPC course, please contact your police service/agency/government department’s training coordinator who will process the application for you to attend. Note that the CPC does not accept requests directly from individual police officers.
To register for a course, once you have determined that you meet the Course Selection Criteria as outlined in each course description, your training coordinator should complete all sections of the CPC Registration form, have it authorized, and send it by fax or e-mail, along with any required documentation (i.e. pre-course test results, letter of support, etc.), to the CPC Registrar.
For more information on course descriptions, pre-requisites, dates and registration, consult the CPC website.
Several courses are being offered at CPC West in 2007 including:
In 2006, the CPC introduced a new approach to course registration in order to reduce waiting lists and improve access to CPC courses. The CPC now has a demand system whereby clients are encouraged to submit all their needs for every CPC course. Every effort will be made to accommodate all qualified employees whose names are submitted via the registration process.
There is always a possibility that a seat may not be available on the very next course, but if this is the case, the College will try to find a seat on a subsequent course session.
The 2008 course training schedule for CPC West is available from the CPC Registrar, training coordinators, or the CPC website.
