Description

Police explosives technicians perform render safe procedures using different equipment (e.g. disrupters, robots, bomb suits and protective gear). They also perform their duties using different techniques, including hook and line, searches, and hand dismantling. This course teaches students how and when to use equipment and related techniques in order to deal with explosives and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Students must already have a theoretical understanding of explosives and be able to identify the components of an IED, how it is initiated and how it functions.

Format and delivery

Length of course: 24 days

Class size: maximum 12 students

Delivery setting: theoretical components are delivered in classroom; practical components are conducted at the explosives range.
